Umbrellas

Umbrellas are available in two distinct types, shoot through and reflective. Shoot through umbrellas can produce softer light than reflective umbrellas because they can be placed close to the subject, but have the disadvantage that the light from them is less controlled because light bounces from them as well as passing through them. Reflective umbrellas produce more controlled light but cannot be placed as close as shoot through umbrellas and so cannot produce such a soft light.
