Intensive Studio Training Workshops

Lencarta intensive studio lighting workshops

Lencarta is committed to helping people to get the best from their studio lighting equipment and during 2010 arranged a series of lighting workshops, led by Garry Edwards at his studio in Bradford. This series has been expanded for 2011 and will run from March through to November (the lighting workshops will not be run between December and February, to avoid possible travel problems caused by winter weather).

During 2011, these lighting workshops will be held in two separate locations, Maidstone and Bradford, to make them available to more people and to cater for people in different parts of the country.
Jonathan Ryan teaches at the Maidstone venue and Garry Edwards teaches at the Bradford venue. Attendance is open to photographers of any experience level.

The cost of these lighting workshops is subsidised by Lencarta  - and if you spend £300 or more on Lencarta lighting equipment within 3 months either side of a lighting workshop on which you have booked, £30 will be refunded

Each of these lighting workshops is a real, hands-on learning experience that is open to photographers of all levels, from absolute beginner to professional - and the feedback we receive from all of the people who take part confirms that everyone who attends, regardless of his or her level of experience, gains a great deal from the experience!

Each session covers the following main points:

• Setting the camera to work with flash


• Lighting ratios


• Key light and fill light


• Lighting the background


• Metering in the studio


• How and when to use light shapers (softboxes, umbrellas, honeycombs, beauty dishes etc)


• Lighting to suit the shape of the face/body.

Basically, the whole idea of these intensive lighting workshops is to teach people exactly how light can be used to create stunning results - they are really about how light can be used, with the emphasis on creative lighting techniques and the principles involved. There are plenty of books, videos and magazine articles available on lighting but relatively few appear to give correct, useful information and most seem to involve little more than an explanation of how to obtain the same, bland results that everyone else obtains - participating in one of our intensive lighting workshops will teach you a much better way of doing it!

Everyone is encouraged to experiment and, at the same time, to work at his or her own pace.
