Softboxes

Softboxes create softer light by making the effective surface of the light bigger; the larger the light source, relative to the size of the subject, the softer the light will be at any given distance. We have an excellent range of softboxes in both folding and standard versions, at very affordable prices.

Our ProFold range of folding softboxes can be assembled and put away in seconds - please click here to see the video

We have two distinct ranges of softboxes, folding and non-folding. Each range produces an extremely high quality of light, with unparalleled evenness over the entire surface of the front diffuser, this is achieved by a combination of high quality materials and good design.

  • Our softboxes are much deeper than most other high quality softboxes
  • The extra deep design ensures that the light is reflected from the walls perfectly before even reaching the first of the two diffusers, which are themselves much more dense and effective than most.
  • The front diffusers are also deeply recessed, this allows the light to be feathered, so that the subject can, if required, be lit with just the edge of the softbox, and it also allows our softboxes to be used to create graduated backgrounds.
  • The deep recess also allows our very effective softbox honeycombs (grids) to be fitted to many of our softboxes.
  • Unlike cheap softboxes, which are often made from thin wall materials that allow light to escape and cause flare, and which often also have diffusers that are far too thin to actually diffuse the light, all Lencarta softboxes are strongly made from the best materials. Because of the high quality of both our materials and construction, our softboxes are taut, they hold their shape extremely well and the deep design ensures that the light from the flash head is perfectly distributed before it even reaches the diffusers, resulting in extremely even light distribution of no more than 0.5 of a stop across the width of the softbox.

In addition, the straight lines of our square and rectangular softboxes really are straight, this is essential when using the edge of the softbox to feather the light on either the subject or on the background, and again this is a feature that is missing from cheaper makes. And the deeply recessed front diffuser of both our Chiaro and Profold range ensures that the light cannot spill back towards the lens at normal angles, and so cannot cause lens flare.

Most of our softboxes are available with speedrings that fit other makes of flash heads too, so you can use Lencarta softboxes with your existing flash heads! Please click here to see a short video that shows how to change the speedring. The speedrings are shown  on this page.

Many of our softboxes can also accept our softbox honeycombs, which are also known as grids or eggcrates. Our honeycombs fit into the deep recess that form a part of all our Chiaro and Profold softboxes and are held securely in place using a hook and loop system. At 40mm deep the cells are much deeper than most and hold their shape extremely well, producing a very even, consistent light that is rigidly controlled, which is essential when softboxes are used as rimlights or backlights.
