Assembling your  softbox

Our latest softboxes (60 x 60cm & 85 x 85cm square, 70 x 140cm & 140 x 30cm rectangular, and 95cm Octa) have a different speedring to the Softboxes demonstrated in our softbox assembly video, so the assembly method is slightly different.

1. Start off by laying the speedring on a suitable surface, with the lugs that  fit into the flashhead pointing down.

2. Now place the black/silver softbox material on top of it, silver side up

3. There are 4 rods, except for the octa model (which has 8 rods). the 'thin' end of each goes into a pocket in the corner of the softbox, but before doing that, pass each rod through its retaining sleeve.

The pockets aren't very obvious when the softbox hasn't been assembled before. Some models of softbox have a velcro flap instead of a pocket on one corner. This is to make it easier to fit the last rod.

4. Now lay one of the rods in its retaining sleeve on the speedring.

5. Push the retaining nipple into its hole on the speedring. Fitting the first nipple requires no effort as there is no tension to overcome.

6. Now repeat with the rod that is fitted to the opposite corner. This time, you'll need to bend the rod in order to slide the nipple into place.

7. Repeat with the other two rods.

8. Tighten the locking nut shown in the photo, this will lock the speedring and make it much easier to fit the softbox to your flash head.softbox-lockingnut

10. Fit the outer diffuser

11. Fit the softbox to your flash head, then if necessary slacken off the locking nut so that the softbox can be rotated, then tighten it again.

Please note that the 95cm Octa softbox has a separate 'inspection cover' which is used to gain easy access to the locking nut. You should assemble the softbox first and attach the 'inspection cover' once assembly is complete.
